Working with the Ten Elements of Self
All Huna work begins with understanding the ten elements of self and learning to "talk to self".
The Three Selves:
- High: Superconscious (Aumakua)
- Middle: Conscious (uhane)
- Low: Subconscious (unihipili)
The Three invisible Subtle Bodies (kino-aka) of each self:
- The High self is least dense, its center is above the crown chakra, and it is rooted in the heart chakra.
- The Middle self is more dense and is centered in the brow chakra.
- Low self is the most dense and its center lies within the solar plexus chakra.

"Dream Master"

The Three Voltages/ Levels of Life Energy/ Psychic Energy (mana/prana):
- Low self controls the supply and use of mana and converts it to a higher voltage (mana-mana) for use by Middle self. Low self uses mana to maintain the physical body.
- Middle self uses mana to think and feel.
- The two together must supply mana to High Self. High Self converts mana to mana-loa. It then becomes a potent healing, "miracle" making force.
The Hawaiian word for "to pray" is wai-pa, which means to divide the waters. This is the process of dividing mana among the 3 selves and releasing a portion to High Self as an offering, a sacrifice, when making a request
The tenth element is the physical body: the terrestrial residence of all three selves.
As we begin to experience and bring into balance our three interrelated selves, attending to each with it's own body, function, and voltage, we create a cohesive energy field in which the focus of intention has real effect.
The harmonious interaction of the three is always the central focus.
Preparation: Foundational Techniques
Creating the TouchStone.
Create an imaginative 'special place' that will become the base from which to begin your work - it becomes a touchstone that is an instantly recognizable cue to your subconscious of your intent. This special place can include anything that makes you feel comfortable and equipped. For instance, a laboratory with a chair that molds to your muscular/skeletal needs for comfort at the moment, a bed that has colored lights that will automatically select the needed vibratory influence of the moment, a computer that you can input questions into and receive answers, a storage area for any healing 'tools' you can imagine. This is your special imaginative place and you can put anything into it that you want. You will find it may change over time in content, size, shape, etc. This special place imagery is used in regard to various purposes but always for basically the same reason - to establish a safe interior space from which to launch whatever objective.
Creating the Clear Ideal.
Before you begin, it is of special importance to gain clarity regarding your highest ideal of consciousness (called by various names: high self, supraconscious, soul, God, God by various names, AllThatIs, Peace, Joy, Bliss). This is important because it is this ideal as an aspect of self that you will call upon to oversee your healing efforts. Don't attempt to be politically or dogmatically correct by choosing the ideal of God or Buddha or AllThatIs if you don't have an intimate feel for them. Any concepts that are intellectually overarching yet do not engage you at an intuitive/emotional level of energies (needed to establish a clear connection) should be set aside. Find the ideal that has personal meaning for you - these are the connective tissue, so to speak, that make GOD real for us at the physical. I know as you enter more deeply into this work you will come to realize the true meaning of "no bird falls that our father does not see". There are truly no 'lesser' values of 'God' - find what is meaningful for you. You need never tell anyone what your Clear Ideal is - it is your ideal of the moment and it will change over time.
Breathing.
Use the following breath to build energy (mana) for the healing process.
The Huna Breath (the larger wave) is a combination of 4 sets of 4 inhalations/exhalations each of the Dolphin Breath (the smaller wave) that consists of the following movements:
- hold the image of inhaling upward from the feet & downward from just above the head, simultaneously,
- image the breath meeting at the heart chakra (pausing), and
- image the exhalation as flowing outward from the heart chakra into one's surrounding energy body.
Repeat the Dolphin Breath for 4 sets of 4 breaths to complete one Huna Breath. Pause, without breathing, for five seconds between each set and sense the outer energy body.
Energy gathered with intention, stored with intention, and offered with intention is an integral key to the successful outflow of intention.
Releasing Intention.
- Prepare to release your intention to the supraconcious (High Self) in as concise visual/emotional terms as possible. It can be beneficial to pursue an open inquiry: to request whatever information would be of most value at the present moment. In this case we are storing energy to be used in the healing process and seeking information regarding what needs healing.
- Gather the energy you have stored and divide it among the three aspects of self (i.e., dividing the waters) and offering a portion as a gift to the higher aspects of self (above the crown chakra).
- Activate the emotional body by considering the importance of pursuing this information and the contact with that part of your self that possesses far-reaching vision. Visualize your request clearly, and with as much detail, as possible. If the request is specific and a timeframe for completion is appropriate, then give one.
- Gather the intention into an energy ball, and ask Low Self (subconscious) to relay your message to High Self (supraconscious). Allow the energy to rise from your feet to the top of your head. Now release the intention to that space beyond your physical form. Give thanks to the higher aspects of self for the information you will receive. And wait, without expectation, with as little preconception and wandering thought as possible.
- It is helpful to record whatever impressions you receive. This signals the subconscious that you are indeed listening. The subconscious is your relay mechanism. If it perceives that you aren't truly interested in the answer, it tends to ignore your request to deliver the question.
- Positioning the eyes at a 45-degree angle upward, focused on the brow just above and between the eyes, assists in the clarity of imagery.
Contact
Making initial contact with your subconscious & your supraconscious
- This is accomplished by entering into a state of meditative receptivity using the breathing and eye movement techniques previously described. When you have completed the full round of breathing, locate consciousness in the touchstone.
- From this point of calm and security request a conduit or connection be opened to that Clear Ideal that you are allowing to operate through and with you.
Making contact with the other
Visualize the person as appearing at least 6 to 10 feet out and away from your body (whatever is a comfortable space for you). Do not worry about whether your imagery is clear or not. I rarely 'see' a person in a clear manner. It's more a sense of presence with some visual aspects. On occasion, there is a distinctly visual impression and I am able to describe the person's outer appearance in great detail. This will vary and is nothing to be concerned about, as it has no effect upon the information you are able to derive or the healing effect you and the person are able to cooperatively manifest.
- Introduce yourself by saying (out loud or internally): "Hello, so and so. This is (your name)"
- Announce your Intent: "I come in peace to help you help yourself- No hurt, no harm to anyone. And this is so." This phrase - 'no hurt, no harm to anyone' - is the one thing I would never change - it clarifies the contract of intention with all aspects of self, the other, and the greater community that there will be no unintended consequence. In the event that any of your personality-based decisions might possibly cause harm they will instead have no affect.
- Inquire into the others wishes in regard to healing: "Do you wish to be free of illness or dis-ease?" It is important to accept the answer - if you hear or feel a NO, accept it and leave with respect. For some this is not easy, because their image of themselves as the healer has become an attachment. Your first clue as to whether you are becoming enamored of your own image will be when you clearly hear someone respond with a resounding NO and you find it difficult or impossible to let it go at that. Or, on the other hand, if you find yourself skipping this step - or never hearing a NO.
Moving Through the Body
Movement commands and exploration of the body in a step by step fashion.
- As you move through the areas of the body, you can use your imaginary tools to correct whatever is revealed to you in any perceptual mode as detrimental to the health of the individual. Even if you are wrong, you have prepared for the safety of the other by your declaration of 'no hurt, no harm'. This is a very logical, step by step process that appeals to many people. For me this works best with minor ailments such as broken bones, sprained muscles, toothache -- difficulties that have not become chronic but are temporary conditions easily mended.
- You may instead find it more appropriate to call upon the healing resources of the individual. Your assistance will then be in the form of added energetic intent as a catalyst to assist them by strengthening their own energetic substance -- channeling the extra store of mana you have gathered to them - in this way they heal themselves and the healing is complete on all levels. I find this works best for me when dealing with more complex illnesses that seem to be deeply embedded in the energetic subtle bodies of the individual.
- Absorbing, incorporating, or assimilating in any manner the disease process of the other is NOT acceptable practice; and it's just not necessary. It does not prove you to be an extraordinary healer to employ empathic practices at this level of identification with the other.
- Begin the movement through the body by imagining yourself as seeing through the eyes of the other, hearing what the other hears. Notice the sinus areas, the nose. Do this quickly and shift to an exterior view/sensation of the other. Hold your hands out in front of you and run your hands over the skull noting any areas of discomfort. Do not take an extraordinary amount of time to do this. Go quickly through the body levels. Pay attention to subtle cues. I often will note darkness instead of clearly perceiving a problem; or I will feel a twinge or hear a ringing. These are the cues that tell you to note the area and take a closer look. Otherwise you need to move swiftly. You can see it will be helpful to have at the very least a minimal working knowledge of anatomy.

Forming the HEALING Intention
The Egyptians made much of the symbol of the thought-form as the 'seed' (as Jesus preferred to call it) and as a 'Ball'. . .In the language of the kahunas, they spoke of a ball ... of thought forms sent from the night of the dense physical world to the light world . . ."
What Jesus Taught in Secret: A Huna Interpretation of the Four Gospels, Max Freedom Long, 1983.
Form an image of the overall change required for perfect health that you wish to manifest. Observe whether your description contains any 'ifs' or 'nots' in the phrasing, eliminate negative phrasing. Make your description as detailed and clear as possible, in as few words as possible. Avoid placing limitations on exactly how this change will manifest. Then see the change as completed. The vividness of your imagery/feeling is important (some persons are less visually inclined and feel the changes instead). See or feel the details. If a bone is broken see/sense it growing back together. If an artery is clogged see it unclogged. When you feel you have a complete verbal/imagery/feeling thought form, you are ready to plant the seed.
Once more address your subconscious by moving your attention to your solar plexus and state your overall intention for your healing energies to be sent to the other, ending your statement with 'This is so'. Send the visual image to the subconscious, with a request that this be sent to the High self (superconscious) along with a gift of mana. Add 'no hurt, no harm to anyone'. Never forget to let the subconscious know you recognize it as your co-creative partner and you appreciate its cooperation.
Separation
Say good-bye to the person with whom you have been working and see them leaving in whatever manner works for you - on a cloud, through a doorway, or just disappearing. Now let the connection break by saying 'Session Ended' or some other appropriate phrase.
I see you as God sees you: Perfect, Whole, and Free. I see you as God sees you; and this is so.
